Orphans Need More Than Just Financial Aid, Says Erlazet Charity
Meeting the needs of orphans cannot be achieved through material aid alone. Education, character building, and continuous mentorship are also necessary so that children can grow with confidence and the ability to face future challenges.
This was stated by Erlazet Charity during a series of activities commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia and the Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, held at the Erlazet Charity Central Secretariat on Sunday (30/08/2026). The event was attended by 50 sponsored orphans and included character education, religious activities, and the distribution of financial aid.
Shofina Fauzani, the Event Chairperson and Education Manager of Erlazet Charity, stated that the mentorship of sponsored children must encompass educational and character-building aspects, in addition to fulfilling material needs.
“We want our sponsored orphans to not only experience the festivities of Independence Day and the blessings of the Prophet’s Birthday, but also to feel loved, mentored, and fully supported in their learning process. The character education we instill is rooted in noble morals and mental resilience,” Shofina said in a press release on Tuesday (01/09/2026).
According to Shofina, character education is essential to help sponsored children build self-confidence and resilience. This mentorship is conducted through activities that combine educational, social, and religious elements.
Rafi Sina Almadani, Deputy Chairperson of Erlazet Charity, stated that attention to the younger generation must be realised through support for education and character formation. He noted that the momentum of Indonesia’s Independence Day serves as an important reminder of the need to prepare the youth for the future.
“Celebrating the 81st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia is not merely about remembering past struggles, but is a tangible manifestation of our collective commitment to preparing the best, smartest, and most resilient generation for the future,” said Rafi.
In addition to character education, the activities also strengthened religious values through motivational sermons. Rafi stated that the exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad SAW can serve as a moral foundation for children in developing their attitudes and facing future challenges.
“Through the combination of the spirit of independence and the exemplary nature of the Messenger of Allah, we at Erlazet Charity want to ensure that these sponsored children grow with high self-confidence, noble character, and are ready to become pillars of hope and future leaders of the nation,” he continued.
As part of the series of activities, 50 sponsored orphans participated in several activities, including competitions in honour of Independence Day and sermons highlighting the values of honesty, trustworthiness, and perseverance.
The event concluded with a joint prayer and the distribution of aid packages to all attending sponsored children. While the aid was provided as social support, the emphasis remains on education, character building, and mentorship to support long-term child development.
