Orphan from Ciamis passes army selection using pull-up bar built by late father

A young orphan from Ciamis, Hafid Nur Hidayah, has successfully passed the selection process to become an Indonesian Army (TNI AD) soldier on his own merit, training with a wooden pull-up bar made by his late father. Born in Kebumen on 30 December 2003 and now residing in Banjar Harja Hamlet, Kertajaya Village, Lakbok District, Ciamis Regency, Hafid had to struggle independently to navigate the highly competitive military education selection while coping with the profound grief of losing both parents in succession. “Alhamdulillah, I was able to pass purely on merit to become a soldier,” Hafid said, expressing his deep satisfaction after fulfilling a sacred promise to his late father in Bandung on Tuesday. The second of two siblings explained that all his initial physical preparation was done simply at home without the aid of expensive fitness facilities. The pull-up bar assembled by his father bore silent witness to the rigorous training and daily discipline Hafid undertook. Hafid’s story of passing the selection purely on merit, without any financial cost, simultaneously dispels the stigma surrounding the strictness of military personnel recruitment, proving that economic limitations and the status of being an orphan are not determinants of failure if accompanied by honesty, hard work, and prayer.
