Orientation program
Orientation program
From Kompas
I am a student at a university in Jakarta. I am concerned about an incident experienced by a fellow student during the three-day orientation program held by the School of Landscaping Architecture and Environment Techniques.
The program includes a social activity, planting trees in a certain district, which should be good for the students. However, the program turned out to be a harmful practice because the senior students treated their juniors improperly.
For example, a senior male student asked his female junior to lie down in ditch. Then he pressed his foot on the abdomen of the new student and also on her breast. The freshman then screamed in pain. Was it not an act of harassment? There is no relevance whatsoever in his action with the social activity. Obviously, it was beyond our comprehension. There was another disgusting incident in this case, spraying urine on a new student.
This kind of program is carried out every year, so it cannot be abolished without good reasons. I would like to suggest that such unpopular practices be stopped for our common good.
