Organising the Environment Towards a Classy, 'Mbois' Malang
The Malang City Government continues to strive to realise the vision of ‘Malang Mbois Berkelas’ (Malang: Beautiful, Orderly, Clean, and Classy). One of the main focuses is environmental management, which is considered a key pillar in creating a comfortable and dignified city. The Mayor of Malang stated that this effort requires synergy between the government and the community. ‘We cannot work alone. Community awareness and participation are the main keys to keeping Malang clean and beautiful,’ he said. Various programmes have been launched, including optimising waste management from the source, adding and revitalising green open spaces, and structuring pedestrian paths. The government is also cracking down on illegal waste disposal and encouraging the use of reusable bags to reduce plastic waste. It is hoped that through these concrete steps, Malang will not only be known as a tourist destination and educational city but also as a model city in terms of environmental management and urban aesthetics.
