Orangutans seized from residents

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: A government conservation team has confiscated seven orangutans from residents here, Antara reported on Sunday.

The acting head of the Natural Conservation Office in South Kalimantan, Muchtar Bursama, said in Banjarbaru that the orangutans were sent to Tanjung Puting National Park.

Muchtar said based on reports from a resident keeping the primates, the orangutans were taken from the park.

He said the office would continue to spread awareness on conservation and protection of endangered species to people here while continuing to seek primates being kept by residents.
