Optimistic About Judicial Review Hearing, Gus Yaqut: Truth Will Find Its Way
Jakarta — Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (Gus Yaqut), Minister of Religious Affairs during the 2020-2024 period, expressed confidence that truth would prevail through the judicial process. Following his appearance at a judicial review hearing at South Jakarta District Court on Monday, 9 March 2026, Yaqut remained optimistic that the proceedings would unfold objectively and fairly.
The judicial review hearing concerned Yaqut’s objection to his designation as a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on suspicion of corruption related to hajj quota policy during his tenure as minister. Monday’s session involved the submission of conclusions from both Yaqut’s legal team and the KPK.
“I am confident that with a truly objective judiciary, which I believe operates fairly, truth will find its way, wherever and whenever,” Yaqut told journalists.
The former chairman of GP Ansor viewed the judicial review as an opportunity for the state to bring forth truth and justice for its citizens. He expressed hope of experiencing justice within the proceedings.
“I believe this is a good opportunity for our nation, and for the broader community, to demonstrate that truth exists in the country we love, and that justice exists in the country we love,” he said.
Yaqut expressed relief that the judicial review process was being conducted openly, fairly, and objectively, and commended South Jakarta District Court for this approach. “Both the applicant and the respondent have been given fair and adequate time and space,” he stated.
Yaqut also praised the presiding judge, Sulistyo Muhamad Dwi Putro, for demonstrating firmness throughout the proceedings, which he credited with ensuring the smooth progress of the case.
“This demonstrates that the state is present in every legal process requested by its citizens. We should all feel reassured by this,” Yaqut concluded.
