Jakarta (ANTARA) — Optik Tunggal is strengthening the competency of its optometrists in paediatric eye examination services through a paediatric vision care training programme held throughout May 2026. The programme is attended by approximately 40 optometrists from various Optik Tunggal stores across Indonesia.

The training features Dr Scarlett Cacayuran Salva, a Paediatric Optometrist and Expert Advisor, who provides instruction on paediatric vision screening and visual examination approaches for children. This step is being taken in response to the increasing need for paediatric eye examinations due to high digital screen exposure from an early age and increasingly intensive daily visual activities.

Optik Tunggal’s Retail Operations Director, Doli Rosmixty, stated that paediatric eye examinations require a different approach compared to adult examinations. “Children have different visual examination needs compared to adults, so the approach must be more specific. Through this training, we want to ensure our team of optometrists has an improved understanding and ability to provide a comfortable and accurate examination experience for children,” Doli Rosmiaty said in a statement on Saturday (17/5).

According to her, strengthening human resource competency is a vital part of maintaining the quality of paediatric vision care services, which continue to evolve alongside community needs. During the training, optometrists received instruction on paediatric visual examination techniques, communication with paediatric patients, child-friendly approaches, and psychological safety to ensure children feel comfortable during the examination process.

In addition to enhancing technical skills, the training also focused on visual observation abilities and an empathetic approach towards children during eye examinations. Dr Scarlett Cacayuran Salva noted that the success of a paediatric eye examination is determined not only by the examination equipment but also by the optometrist’s ability to build a comfortable interaction with the child. “Children have different responses when undergoing eye examinations. Therefore, optometrists require patience, observational skills, and communication approaches that can make children feel safe and engaged during the process,” she said.

This programme is also part of the development of the paediatric vision care ecosystem being built by Optik Tunggal through the ‘Next Generation’ concept, which features specialised stores for children designed to provide a more comfortable and child-friendly eye examination experience.
