Opposition seeks graft probe
MALAYSIA: An opposition leader called on Tuesday for a police
investigation into claims that Transport Minister Ling Liong Sik
had allegedly obstructed a graft probe.
Democratic Action Party (DAP) president Lim Kit Siang said the
case against Ling, who heads the Malaysian Chinese Association
(MCA), came to light following remarks by businessman Soh Chee
Wen who previously had intricate business dealings with Ling's
family.
Soh, who was sought for three years by the authorities in
connection with commercial crimes, returned to Malaysia last
month where he was immediately charged with fraud.
Soh allegedly told Internet newspaper Malaysiakini in an
interview last week that he had been told by Ling not to
implicate him in an Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) probe into how
the politician's son could have embarked on billion-dollar
corporate acquisitions at the age of 27. --AFP
