Operator, traders agreed on UI
JAKARTA: Tanah Abang textile market vendors and city-run
market operator PD Pasar Jaya agreed on Monday to appoint the
University of Indonesia (UI) technology research institute to get
a second opinion on the strength of the market construction.
The decision was made in a fourth meeting between the two
parties following strong opposition from vendors to the city
administration's plan to demolish the market.
The demolition was planned after the Bandung Institute of
Technology (ITB) issued a report that stated that the structure
of the market's Block B, C, D and E could only last for two
years.
PD Pasar Jaya president director Prabowo Soenirman anticipates
that the result of the UI study will be announced on Nov. 24,
four days before traders business permits expire. -- JP
