Operator calls for airport shuttle

JAKARTA: State airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II urged the government to realize the construction a 31.6 kilometer railway track to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport through the formation of a consortium.

"Foreign and domestic investors can be involved in the project," Angkasa president director Eddie Haryoto said on Friday.

He added the project was expected to cost Rp 1.2 trillion (US$134 million), and was aimed at reducing congestion on the toll road leading to the airport.

Earlier, director of state railway company PT KAI Omar Berto hinted that KAI would most likely not join such a consortium, due to financial constraints.

The government is preparing to undertake a Rp 57 billion land clearing project for the railway. -- Antara
