Operations Commander: Joint Team Investigates Cause of Fire at SMAN 2 Dekai

Jayapura (ANTARA) — Operations Commander of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani, said a joint team is currently investigating the cause of a fire at SMAN 2 Dekai in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua. The Law Enforcement Task Force of Operation Damai Cartenz together with the Yahukimo Police Criminal Investigation Unit are still conducting further inquiry to uncover the perpetrator and motive.

“The fire in one of the rooms at SMAN 2 Dekai occurred on Saturday afternoon (February 14),” he said in Jayapura on Sunday.

According to reports received, he said, the incident was an attempted arson targeting one classroom at SMAN 2 Dekai. However, the fire was quickly extinguished and did not spread to other buildings. The investigation is being conducted not only to determine the cause of the fire but also to identify the perpetrator.

“The perpetrator of the arson in one of the rooms at SMAN 2 Dekai cannot yet be confirmed as the investigation is still ongoing,” he said.

He added that security forces will increase patrols and security at a number of vital sites, including educational facilities, to prevent similar incidents from recurring and to maintain public order and security in the Yahukimo area.

“Hopefully, with increased patrols around Dekai, the area can remain relatively safe and under control,” he said.
