The capture of sailfin catfish, known as a river pest, was carried out simultaneously in five regions of DKI Jakarta. A total of 68,800 sailfin catfish weighing 6.9 tonnes were caught to be destroyed.

“Based on the data collected, the total number of sailfin catfish captured reached 68,880 individuals with a weight of around 6.98 tonnes,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP), Hasudungan A. Sidabalok, when asked for confirmation, as reported by detikNews on Friday (17/4/2026).

Hasudungan stated that the region with the highest catch came from South Jakarta (Jaksel), with details of 63,600 individuals weighing 5.3 tonnes. The sailfin catfish were captured in the Pintu Air Outlet Setu Babakan area, Srengseng Sawah Ward, Jagakarsa Subdistrict.

Then in East Jakarta (Jaktim), there were 4,128 sailfin catfish weighing 825.5 kg captured at 10 subdistrict points. Next, in Central Jakarta (Jakpus), there were 536 sailfin catfish captured weighing 565 kg at seven subdistrict points.

Meanwhile, in North Jakarta (Jakut), 545 fish were captured from the connecting channel of RW 06, Kelapa Gading Ward, Kelapa Gading Subdistrict. The total weight of the captured fish was 271 kg.

“Whereas in West Jakarta, 71 fish weighing 17 kg were captured in Kali Anak TSI, Duri Kosambi Ward, Cengkareng Subdistrict,” he revealed.

This operation is part of efforts to control the sailfin catfish population, which is considered to damage the aquatic ecosystem. In the future, similar activities are planned to be carried out periodically to maintain environmental balance in the Jakarta region.
