Commissioner of the National Police Commission Choirul Anam has appreciated the success of this year’s Operation Ketupat. Anam assessed that the success of the security operation during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return flows was inseparable from the technology-based policies implemented by the Indonesian National Police (Polri).

“Based on the figures, there has indeed been a quite significant decline, and the most important thing is actually the use of technology. The technology-based approach allows the policies taken to be more objective,” said Anam when contacted on Thursday (26/3/2026).

The National Police Commission also praised the leadership of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in providing directions to his subordinates during the course of Operation Ketupat 2026. Anam stated that the success of this operation was inseparable from the clear directives from the Polri leadership, which were then carried out by the members and followed by the public.

The Police Chief also extended the security period for the 2026 return flow, continued with Enhanced Routine Activities (KRYD) until 29 March. The Police Chief asked Polri ranks to remain in the field to secure the public on the roads until they arrive home safely.

“The police ensure that the management of Operation Ketupat runs smoothly, various obstacles that may occur on the roads in those areas are reduced and minimised as much as possible, but this is also part of how the public cooperates well by utilising technology, complying with all safety and security signs,” said Anam.

The National Police Commission also encouraged Polri to continue developing technology-based policies. Anam said one area that still needs improvement is services on arterial routes.

According to Anam, Polri must be able to implement a vehicle movement monitoring system on arterial routes similar to the vehicle monitoring already implemented on toll roads.

“I think learning from the system developed based on e-toll that can make one-way policies effective can be extended to arterial roads so that the safety and security of the public in carrying out this very large cultural event can run smoothly,” explained Anam.

Furthermore, Anam appreciated the entire work of the police, especially the Polri Traffic Corps, during the course of Operation Ketupat 2026. The National Police Commission also appreciated the public for their compliance in following the instructions and rules given by the officers.

“So the success of Operation Ketupat now is the success of a joint operation between the police and the public,” explained Anam.

Fatalities in Operation Ketupat 2026 Drop 30.41 Percent

Polri has officially ended Operation Ketupat 2026, continued with Enhanced Routine Activities (KRYD) until 29 March in accordance with the directives of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Polri recorded success in suppressing the number of road fatalities in this year’s humanitarian operation.

“As the Head of the Polri Traffic Corps, with the permission of the Police Chief, tonight we officially close Operation Ketupat 2026. Overall, the security and public order situation during the 2026 Eid celebration was maintained safely, orderly, and conducive, without any prominent incidents,” said Head of the Polri Traffic Corps Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho to reporters in Semarang, Central Java, on Wednesday (25/3).

Inspector General Agus also revealed that based on data from the Polri Traffic Corps IRSMS application, the number of fatalities (MD) during this year’s homecoming and return period experienced a significant decline.

“The number of fatality deaths experienced a decline of 104 people or 30.41 percent. In 2026, 238 people were recorded, while in 2025 it reached 342 people,” he explained.

Not only the death toll, the total number of national traffic accidents also showed a positive trend. Polri recorded a 5.31 percent decrease in the number of traffic accidents or 153 incidents fewer compared to last year.
