Waste disposal activities at the Suwung Final Processing Site (TPA), South Denpasar, resumed normal operations on Monday morning, 2 March 2026. The previous day, on Sunday 1 March 2026, the Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov) closed the Suwung TPA as a follow-up to the Ministry of Environment’s policy aimed at halting open dumping practices in Bali.

South Denpasar Police Chief AKP Agus Adi Apriyoga stated that Suwung TPA operations were resumed following coordination among Bali’s provincial government, Badung regency, and Denpasar city authorities.

“Coordination was held from 08.00 Wita at the Office of Bali Provincial Waste Management Unit, Jalan TPA Suwung, Sesetan. The coordination resulted in an agreement that TPA operations would resume at 09.00 Wita,” said Agus on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Around 08.30 Wita, heavy equipment belonging to Badung regency’s Waste Management Unit began operating in the waste pile area. Shortly afterwards, heavy equipment from Denpasar city’s Waste Management Unit joined the operations. Subsequently, waste transport trucks began entering the TPA area in stages.

Adi stated that there were no public demonstrations or other actions from the waste truck drivers, and that police would continue monitoring to anticipate potential security disturbances and ensure public services ran smoothly.

“We from South Denpasar Police Station will continue providing security to ensure waste disposal activities can proceed in an orderly manner,” he said.

Previously, dozens of waste truck drivers who normally operate in the Denpasar-Badung area remained on Jalan Pulau Serangan, South Denpasar, on Sunday, 1 March 2026, awaiting confirmation following the official closure of Suwung TPA on 1 March 2026.

These drivers were forced to halt waste disposal activities and park their vehicles near the location due to a lack of clarity regarding TPA operations.
