Opening Session V, Puan Reveals Several Agendas to be Discussed by DPR

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The House of Representatives (DPR) of the Republic of Indonesia has officially ended its recess and opened the Fifth Sitting Period of the 2025-2026 Session on Tuesday (12/5/2026). The opening of the sitting period was directly led by DPR Speaker Puan Maharani. “Welcome to all members of the DPR RI who have carried out their duties during the recess in their respective electoral districts. The aspirations conveyed by constituents will be our collective responsibility to follow up through the functions of the DPR RI,” said DPR Speaker Puan Maharani when opening the sitting period at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/5/2026). During this sitting period, the DPR will continue first-level discussions on several draft laws. Namely, the revision of the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law, the International Civil Law Bill, the revision of the Statistics Law, and the Industrial Design Bill. In addition, the DPR will also highlight issues such as optimising e-KTP to be digitally integrated in public services, comprehensively resolving illegal mining in agrarian conflicts, imposing firm sanctions on law enforcers who violate professional ethics, guaranteeing a balance between the availability and prices of essential needs so that they are affordable for the public, and accelerating the implementation of sustainable practices in state-owned enterprises to maintain business continuity and enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market. It will also evaluate the implementation of computer-based written exams for the national selection based on tests, additional quotas for fuel and LPG to regions to prevent energy shortages that primarily affect fishermen and MSME actors, efforts to strengthen the Rupiah exchange rate, and the government’s preparedness in facing risks of global crude oil price uncertainties due to geopolitical conditions. Puan assured that workers’ aspirations will be promptly followed up. “With the utterance of Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, on behalf of the DPR RI leadership, I hereby announce to all the Indonesian people that the Fifth Sitting Period of the 2025-2026 Session begins from Tuesday, 12 May 2026, until 21 July 2026,” she stated.
