Opening General OHS Expert Certification, Labour Minister: Quality Must Not Be Compromised
JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower (Menaker), Yassierli, has urged that the process of certifying General Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Experts must not compromise on quality.
Yassierli issued this reminder while opening the Training and Certification for General K3 Experts Batch 2 for the year 2026.
The event is attended by 2,100 participants from across the country via online platforms to strengthen worker protection.
“Quality must not be sacrificed for quantity. No matter how many participants there are, the most important thing is to ensure that every individual who passes truly possesses adequate understanding, skills, and professional attitudes,” said Yassierli at the Ministry of Manpower office in Jakarta on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
He reminded that workplace accidents are closely linked to humanitarian aspects, productivity, and the sustainability of a nation.
Workplace accidents also affect families, aspirations, and the future of workers, extending beyond mere technical issues.
According to Yassierli, Indonesia’s industrial landscape is currently undergoing significant changes, including digitalisation, automation, and business models prioritising efficiency.
Therefore, prospective K3 Experts will play a crucial role in preventing workplace accidents amidst evolving business models.
“You are the ones ensuring that technological advancements and changes in the world of work do not compromise safety,” stated Yassierli.
As General K3 Experts, they must drive behavioural changes among workers.
In his view, K3 challenges often stem not from inadequate regulations, but from the consistency of their implementation.
“Many organisations already have procedures but lack the culture. Many have systems but lack commitment,” said Yassierli.
The Professor from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) emphasised that General K3 Experts must have analytical abilities to identify potential hazards before risks emerge.
They must also communicate K3 effectively so that it is understood by all workers across various levels.
Additionally, they need to be adaptive, able to respond quickly to technological changes and new patterns.
“Without these three elements, K3 will lag behind industrial developments,” said Yassierli.
