OpenClaw Launches iOS and Android Apps, Bringing AI Agents to Mobile Phones

The artificial intelligence project OpenClaw has officially launched standalone applications for iOS and Android devices, allowing users to now download the AI agent directly from the App Store and Play Store. According to a report from Engadget, the application enables users to interact with the AI assistant via their mobile phones, including chatting, monitoring tasks the AI is working on, and approving actions the AI is set to perform. Users can also grant the AI agent access to various device features, such as the camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. OpenClaw, which began as a small-scale AI project, is now managed as an open-source project by a foundation after its founder, Peter Steinberger, joined OpenAI earlier this year. At the time of Steinberger’s recruitment, OpenAI also stated it would provide support to the organisation, though it did not detail the form that support would take. The launch of the OpenClaw application represents a key development for AI agent technology, which has faced particular challenges within Apple’s ecosystem due to stricter app review processes. Apple has previously rejected a number of AI agent applications over security concerns, especially those related to AI-based software development. Due to these restrictions, iPhone users previously had to rely on third-party chat applications like Telegram or WhatsApp to interact with their AI agents.
