OpenAI to Develop Superapp Combining ChatGPT, Codex, and Atlas Browser

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The artificial intelligence (AI) company OpenAI is reportedly developing a “superapp” for Mac that combines the ChatGPT application, the Codex coding platform, and the Atlas browser.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the idea behind this all-in-one “superapp” is to simplify the user experience, following the launch of several separate products, some of which have not fully captured OpenAI customers’ interest, as quoted by MacRumors on Friday (20/3) local time.

The company is also seeking to rebound after the recent success of its main competitor, Anthropic.

This artificial intelligence will be able to work autonomously on users’ computers to perform various tasks, such as writing code and analysing data.

In an internal meeting last week, OpenAI’s head of applications division, Fidji Simo, reportedly told employees that they could not be distracted by “side projects” given Anthropic’s rapid success in attracting enterprise and coding customers.

In the coming months, the company also plans to add new “agentic” capabilities to the Codex application to assist with productivity tasks beyond coding, before ultimately integrating ChatGPT and the Atlas browser into the superapp.

Last year, OpenAI launched several major initiatives, such as the Sora video application, and acquired Jony Ive’s AI hardware company. However, since then, Anthropic has shown strong momentum thanks to the success of products like Code Claude and Cowork.
