OpenAI Secures Funding of Rp 2,000 Trillion, Valuation Now Exceeds Rp 14,000 Trillion
KOMPAS.com – The artificial intelligence (AI) company behind the ChatGPT chatbot, OpenAI, has announced the completion of its latest funding round, raising funds worth $122 billion (approximately Rp 2,000 trillion, at an exchange rate of $1 = Rp 16,950).
This fresh capital injection has propelled the company’s valuation to around $852 billion, equivalent to more than Rp 14,000 trillion. In February, OpenAI’s valuation stood at $730 billion, or approximately Rp 12,300 trillion.
This funding is described as one of the largest in the history of the technology industry, while also marking OpenAI’s step towards a potential initial public offering (IPO), although no official schedule has been set for such plans.
The funding round was led by several global strategic partners, including Amazon, which is reportedly committed to up to $50 billion, as well as Nvidia and SoftBank, each contributing around $30 billion.
In its official statement, OpenAI stated that the majority of these funds will be used to finance the construction of data centre infrastructure and large-scale computing capacity.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously mentioned that AI infrastructure investment needs could exceed $1 trillion (Rp 16,949 trillion).
However, that target has now been adjusted to around $600 billion (approximately Rp 10,169 trillion) by 2030. The fresh funds above could help achieve this target.
In addition, the funds will also be allocated to train new-generation AI models with more advanced capabilities, while developing integrated products in the form of an “AI superapp” that combines various services into one platform.
OpenAI will also utilise this funding to expand its enterprise business and improve service efficiency in line with the increasing scale of AI usage.
Regarding revenue, OpenAI claims it is now recording around $2 billion per month.
This figure has surged sharply compared to 2024, when it was still around $1 billion every three months, or per quarter.
The company also claims its revenue growth is four times faster than tech giants like Alphabet and Meta during their early growth phases.
On growth, OpenAI’s services are currently showing rapid expansion in terms of users.
