OpenAI releases 'ChatGPT for Teens', a safer AI chatbot for teenagers
OpenAI has finally provided a dedicated service for teenagers, namely ChatGPT for Teens, which promises an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that is claimed to be more friendly for adolescent users.
The product promises to include additional safety measures as well as address the crisis in education over the numerous findings of cheating assisted by ChatGPT in schools.
As reported by TechCrunch on Tuesday (18/8), ChatGPT for Teens introduces a new Study Mode feature and various other features that encourage teenage users to be more interested in doing their assignments and solving problems rather than just seeking quick answers through AI.
Through this mode, teenage users will also receive special reminders that will appear if they attempt to cheat rather than understand their study material.
This dedicated application will also support learning using visualisation and many quizzes, allowing parents or guardians of teenagers to control when Study Mode will run automatically.
OpenAI stated that age-appropriate protections will now be activated automatically in the ChatGPT service for teenagers, designed to reduce exposure to harmful content or content that is not appropriate for their developmental age. These measures are based on OpenAI’s Under-18 Principles.
Parents can also use the family features and parental controls that were previously introduced to manage settings and receive safety notifications.
The dedicated ChatGPT application for teenagers emerged after at least the past year saw numerous lawsuits against AI companies over the impact of chatbots on adolescent safety and mental health.
