Jakarta — OpenAI plans to integrate its artificial intelligence (AI) video-generation model Sora directly into ChatGPT, allowing users to create videos with AI through the chatbot.

According to Engadget on Saturday, the Sora application previously garnered significant attention when launched alongside the Sora 2 model in September 2025. However, the application’s popularity has declined in recent times after users encountered various limitations, including restrictions on the number of videos and types of content that can be created.

By integrating Sora into ChatGPT, OpenAI hopes the technology can reach a much larger user base. The company previously reported that ChatGPT’s weekly active users reached approximately 900 million in February, with a target to increase that figure to one billion users or more.

From an operational cost perspective, AI-based video creation technology is expensive to run. OpenAI charges approximately $0.10 USD (Rp1,696) per second for 720p resolution video creation through its API service for business clients.

In 2025, the company even provided a quota of up to 30 free videos per account daily through the Sora application. If the technology is used by ChatGPT’s significantly larger user base, the company’s operational costs could increase substantially.

The report also notes that OpenAI estimates it could spend more than $225 billion USD, equivalent to Rp3.82 quadrillion, for costs of running AI models in the period from 2026 to 2030.

To cover these costs, OpenAI has attempted to monetise the Sora service through a paid credit system that allows users to generate more videos. A similar scheme is expected to be applied once the model becomes available on ChatGPT.
