Open Stage and Massage to Enliven NU Congress, 'Wild Delegations' Also Present

Preparations for the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress continue to be finalised. Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), KH Ulil Abshar Abdalla, known as Gus Ulil, confirmed that various preparations, including congress materials and organisational administration, are proceeding well.

“Congress preparations are continuing. There are still a few things to be done, but preparations are going well. The materials are ready,” said Gus Ulil when met at the PBNU office in Jakarta recently.

According to him, all Nahdlatul Ulama branch boards (PCNU) and regional boards (PWNU) have also prepared to attend NU’s highest deliberative forum. He said all matters relating to decrees (SK) connected with the congress have also been completed.

“All PCNU and PWNU are ready to attend the congress tomorrow. All decree matters are also finished. God willing, this congress will run successfully,” said Gus Ulil.

He acknowledged that dynamics during the congress are normal. According to him, various developments and dynamics almost always emerge in every NU congress.

“There will certainly be dynamics and developments, but that is normal in every NU congress,” he said.

Gus Ulil estimated that the number of NU members who will attend the 35th Congress could reach tens of thousands. That figure includes not only official participants but also supporters who will enliven the congress.

He explained that around 560 PWNU and PCNU boards will attend. Each PWNU and PCNU is represented by four people: the Rais Syuriyah, Katib Syuriyah, chairman, and secretary.

“From the PC and PW, there are around 560 PW and PC. Each PW and PC is represented by four people: the Rais Syuriyah, Katib Syuriyah, chairman, and secretary. So just multiply 560 by four,” he explained.
