Open Selection for National Disability Commission Members: The Stages Involved
The Open Selection Committee (Pansel) for the National Disability Commission (KND) has announced that the official selection for the 2026-2031 period will open on 7 September 2026. The announcement was made by five members of the Selection Committee during a press conference held in Jakarta on Friday (4/9/2026).
Information regarding the selection stages and requirements will be published via the official websites of the Selection Committee and the National Disability Commission. Interested members of the public are urged to carefully review all established regulations and schedules.
The five-member selection committee represents government, academia, practitioners, professionals, and community leaders, consisting of Muhammad Nuh as chairman, and four members: Boleh Fuad, Ro’fah, Siswadi, and Abdul Muis.
A total of 14 candidates will be selected, who will subsequently be proposed to the President to finalise the appointment of 7 members.
“There are eight stages to be undertaken, starting from the announcement stage announced today, up to the final determination stage. Once determined, they will be proposed to the President,” said Muhammad Nuh in his statement on Friday (4/9/2026).
The eight stages consist of announcement, registration, administrative selection, computer-based competency test (CAT), essay writing, public input and public testing, psychological testing, interviews, and health examinations.
Muhammad Nuh also stated that from the initial applicants, the pool will be narrowed down to 49 candidates who will undergo public testing by the community. It is hoped that the public will provide feedback regarding these 49 candidates.
“We will also conduct cross-checks to verify the track records of the candidates. In this manner, we hope that those we propose to the President will be individuals who have been thoroughly vetted, both in terms of administration, competence, and representation,” he added.
The committee will also conduct tracking of candidates through relevant institutions. “We will check whether they have ever been reported to the National Commission on Violence Against Women, the National Commission on Human Rights, the KPK, KPAI, or PPATK. We will also track whether candidates are involved in online gambling or illegal online loans. We will try our utmost,” explained Bahrul Fuad.
The selection process for this period differs from the previous one due to the addition of the public input and public testing stages.
“Regarding public input, the narrowed-down names will be posted on the Selection Committee’s website. All Indonesian citizens are invited to provide both positive and negative feedback on these names, and such comments will only be accessible to the selection committee,” he said.
Furthermore, during the public testing stage, the 49 selected candidates will present their vision and mission to become members of the KND. “We invite members of the public, activists, and disability organisations to attend and test them. The committee will not conduct the testing at this stage; they will merely observe,” Fuad added. Thus, the members of the National Disability Commission will be a choice of the community, with the committee acting only as a facilitator.
Selection committee member Ro’fah stated that this period aims to ensure that public input is considered so that the selected KND members represent all types of disabilities.
“This includes physical, sensory, psychosocial, and intellectual disabilities,” she said.
The committee is also open to feedback from the public, including disability organisations, regarding the implementation of the selection process.
The selection committee also ensured that the process is designed with accessibility in mind to reach all types of disabilities.
“Therefore, on 7 September, citizens across Indonesia can view the requirements for KND candidates through the website,” concluded Fuad.
