OOCL expands service

JAKARTA (JP): Orient Overseas Container Line and Pacific International Lines announced yesterday they would launch a new service to meet the increasing demand for cargo space serving the Southeast Asian and Australia region.

The weekly service, called the Australia Express Service (AES), is to be served by four 1,000 twenty-feet equivalent unit container vessels and is scheduled to call at Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fremantle, Port Klang and Singapore.

A statement received by The Jakarta Post said yesterday the AES would provide customers faster transit time and more reliable connections to the carriers' network in Singapore.

The trip from Singapore to Sydney will require 10 days, to Melbourne 12 days and to Adelaide 15 days. The round trip would take 28 days. Jakarta and Surabaya cargo heading from or to Australia would stop over in Singapore. (pwn)
