A delegation of elderly cyclists from across Indonesia visited the Klaten regency to pay a courtesy call on the Regent of Klaten, Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, on Friday, 22 May, in the run-up to the Klaten International Cycling (KLIC) Fest 2026. The onthelis-onthelista cyclists, who are members of the Komunitas Pesepeda Tua Indonesia (Kosti), were accompanied by Darat Aris (Chairman of Kosti), Bambang Waluyo Jati (Advisor), and M Dany (Special Staff to the Minister of Transmigration).

They met in the Klaten DPRD meeting room as part of the preparations for the world’s senior-cycling gathering, the International Veteran Cycle Association (IVCA) Rally 2026, to be held at Candi Prambanan. Chairman of the Kosti Executive Board, Darat Aris, reported that the visit by elderly cyclists from various regions to Klaten forms part of the broader IVCA programme in Prambanan, 17-24 May 2026. Previously, the same community participated in a similar international event in Bali in 2018, when around 14,000 cyclists took part.

Following the success of that international event, Indonesia has again been afforded the opportunity this year, and the world recognises Indonesia as the country with the most veteran cycling enthusiasts. “I am moved by the presence of Kosti members in the Klaten DPRD meeting room, some of whom began their journeys from Palembang, Lahat, Lampung, DKI Jakarta, Banten, Bandung, Cirebon, Makassar, East Java, and Bali,” Aris said.

The Kosti chairman added that the long-distance cycling initiative aims to ensure the continuity of the international festival in Klaten, while also fostering unity and friendship among veteran cyclists from Sabang to Merauke. “One onthel, one spirit, all family,” he declared.

Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo announced that Klaten has been chosen to host the international cycling festival in 2026. The event is expected to attract up to 15,000 participants. Klaten was trusted to host the CLIC Fest 2026 because Indonesia should once again promote cycling as a daily means of transport, especially in the face of high global oil prices.

“Welcome, onthelis-onthelista from Sabang to Merauke; most have already arrived in Klaten today. Enjoy the sights and local cuisine of Klaten,” he said. (H-2)
