Only 10 HIV-positive in Indramayu
Only 10 HIV-positive in Indramayu
INDRAMAYU, West Java: Indramayu health office said Monday that
only 10 people had been tested HIV positive in the area so far
despite its notorious reputation as the country's biggest sex
worker supplier.
Health office head Dadang Supriadi said that the absence of
the Elisa test or other blood tests for HIV (such as the Western
Blot) in the regency has made it difficult to track the spread of
HIV/AIDS in the region.
Currently, the office sends blood samples to Bandung and gets
the results within two weeks.
Dadang predicted that HIV prevalence in the regency was high,
given the fact that the number of sex workers in Indramayu was
quite large and their mobility was very high.
"Ideally, we should prevent the HIV positive people from
having sex with others. If they are commercial sex workers, they
should leave their profession but the problem is, who can
guarantee that they did not have sexual contact with other
people?", Dadang said. --Antara
