Online travel platform users increasingly flexible in planning trips
Jakarta — Users of online travel agency platforms are becoming increasingly prudent and flexible in arranging their travel based on consumer booking pattern data in the ASEAN region for the dates of 15 to 28 March 2026, during the Lebaran holiday period, on the AirAsia Move platform.
AirAsia Move Chief Executive Officer Nadia Omer stated in a company press release issued in Jakarta on Sunday (15 March) that booking patterns during that period showed increased flexibility among platform users in booking flight services.
According to booking patterns on the Move platform, which provides access to over 700 global airlines, service users tend to use different airlines for outbound and return flights.
Some Move users opt to secure one-way tickets first and arrange their return journey schedule later.
This pattern is viewed as reflecting the dynamics of family travel planning whilst representing consumers’ efforts to navigate fluctuations in airline ticket prices during the holiday period.
Platform users also consider costs when selecting accommodation during the Lebaran homecoming period, when demand for transport and accommodation services increases.
Users travelling with extended families now tend to choose properties capable of accommodating more people in a single unit, such as villas, apartments, or suites with multiple bedrooms.
“Rather than booking rooms separately, this strategy is considered more efficient by dividing accommodation costs evenly among group members,” said Nadia.
Online travel agency platform users tend to select accommodation services with more affordable costs.
Nadia cited an example: platform users managed by her company booked hotel services averaging around IDR1.1 million per night.
“This pattern demonstrates that although the tradition of returning home during Lebaran remains strong, society is now increasingly wise in managing their travel budgets,” she said.
Nadia stated that the Lebaran homecoming period presents an opportunity to facilitate travellers in the ASEAN region in planning their journeys more carefully and efficiently.
