Online Taxi Drivers Welcome Removal of 'Hemat' Program, Hope for Increased Income
BEKASI — A number of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers in Bekasi City have welcomed the policy to abolish the ‘Hemat’ service access subscription programme and the planned reduction in application commission deductions. They believe the new policy can ease operational burdens while simultaneously increasing the daily income of partner drivers.
Tugiyat (5ability), a Gojek partner driver, expressed gratitude for the policy change. He noted that the reduction in commission deductions would directly impact the increase in net income brought home. Tugiyat shared that his recent order volume has been unpredictable, which has directly resulted in fluctuating daily earnings. “Sometimes I get Rp 100,000, sometimes Rp 50,000. It is uncertain,” explained Tugiyat.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Supratman (50), a Grab partner driver who frequently operates around Bekasi Station. He stated that the removal of the ‘Hemat’ scheme and the commission adjustments would significantly help reduce the financial burden on drivers. For Supratman, the 20 per cent commission deduction previously applied by application providers was felt to be too large and burdensome for drivers’ pockets. “If the deduction is reduced, we won’t be so burdened. It will be better for the drivers,” said Supratman. “The 20 per cent deduction is too high. So, it is good if the ‘Hemat’ package is removed and the commission is reduced.”
Supratman added that his work as an online taxi driver is his primary source of income to meet daily needs. Therefore, he hopes for policies that are more aligned with the welfare of online taxi drivers. “I hope our fate will be better in the future,” he said.
For information, Grab and Gojek officially ceased the ‘Hemat’ service access subscription programme for partner drivers on Tuesday (19/05/2026). This policy is described as a follow-up to government directives aimed at improving the welfare of partner drivers. Previously, the programme was a paid system that required drivers to subscribe to access specific tariff structures. Moving forward, Gojek will also implement an application commission deduction of 8 per cent per trip, down from the previous rate which had reached 20 per cent. Both application providers are currently awaiting the issuance of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 27 of 2026, which will regulate the online transportation ecosystem more comprehensively.
