Online Taxi Driver Reports TikTok Account Owner for Defamation After Viral Theft Accusations
An online taxi driver with the initials LPT (41) has formally reported the owner of TikTok account @dedebin to Depok Metro Police on charges of defamation. The complaint was triggered by a video post falsely accusing LPT of stealing a Mobile Legends (ML) game account, which subsequently went viral and triggered public persecution against him.
The police report was registered under case number LP/B/473/III/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO DEPOK/POLDA METRO JAYA on Friday, 13 March 2026.
LPT’s legal representative from Law Office Risky Dendy & Partner, Risky Nugroho, stated that his client was trapped in a game account trading scam. LPT had initially only been fulfilling a customer’s request to arrange a birthday surprise.
“Our client was merely following the customer’s instructions and did not understand the context of the transaction taking place. This is a phenomenon of trial by social media that has caused considerable damage to our client’s reputation,” Risky said in a statement on Monday, 16 March 2026.
Risky explained that the incident began on 25 February 2026, when LPT received an order from a customer (account buyer). The customer asked LPT not to pick up passengers, but instead to go to a rented house in the Cibubur area to surprise the customer’s younger sibling (the account seller) on their birthday.
LPT was asked to pose as a prospective Mobile Legends account buyer in exchange for a tip of IDR 100,000. He agreed, believing it was a form of service assistance similar to what he had done before without any issues.
However, upon arriving at the location and following the customer’s scenario, the account seller suddenly demanded an IDR 34 million bank transfer from LPT. Confused as the amount fell outside their original agreement, LPT attempted to explain that he was simply an online taxi driver acting on the customer’s instructions.
The situation escalated when LPT was prevented from leaving the house, his car keys were confiscated, and he was intimidated by associates of the account seller. During this panic, the account seller recorded LPT while making accusations of account theft.
LPT was eventually able to leave after fellow online taxi drivers came to the location to help him. However, the next day, the recording of LPT being intimidated had been uploaded by account @dedebin and viewed millions of times.
“The serious accusations made on TikTok have destroyed our client’s reputation. The stigma and psychological pressure he has suffered cannot be taken lightly,” Risky added.
Before reporting to police, LPT’s team issued a formal warning letter on 28 February 2026 demanding clarification and an apology from the owner of account @dedebin. However, the request was rejected by the respondent.
The case is now being investigated by Depok Metro Police. LPT’s legal team hopes the legal process will proceed fairly in order to restore his client’s reputation, who also serves as an attendant at a place of worship.
“We appreciate the swift response from police and hope the true facts will soon be revealed to provide legal certainty,” Risky concluded.
