An online taxi driver who went viral on social media for rage and damaging another driver’s vehicle on JORR Toll Road, Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta, has been arrested by police. A man identified as JF, 57, was detained by the Mobile Investigation Unit (Subdit Resmob) of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) on Sunday (31 May). “The suspect was arrested without resistance at his residence in Ciputat, South Tangerang, by Unit 1 of the Operational Team of Resmob Polda Metro Jaya,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Resa Fiardi Marasabessy, Head of the Mobile Investigation Sub-Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, as reported by Antara. Resa stated that the case was uncovered following cyber patrols that discovered viral footage of an aggressive driver’s destructive actions against another vehicle. “After investigation, the victim, Peter Atindra Akbar, had officially filed a police report at Kebayoran Lama Police Station on Friday (29 May),” he added. Following the report, Unit 1 Operational Team of Resmob, led by Assistant Commissioner Resa Fiardi Marasabessy and Inspector Dimitri Mahendra Kartika, conducted a thorough investigation and IT analysis to profile the suspect’s whereabouts. “Based on IT analysis, the team successfully identified the suspect’s profile and arrested him at his residence on Cimandiri Raya Street, Cipayung, Ciputat, at around 3:30 PM on Friday (29 May),” he said. He explained that the destruction occurred on Tuesday (26 May) at around 7:22 PM. At the time, the victim was driving a Suzuki minibus on the JORR Toll Road after entering through the Pondok Pinang Toll Gate. Simultaneously, the suspect, driving a Daihatsu Sigra with license plate B-1557-WIM, attempted to overtake the victim’s vehicle from the left lane. Due to the narrow lane, the suspect’s car scraped the left side of the victim’s vehicle. The suspect then forcibly attempted to overtake from the right lane and deliberately rammed his vehicle into the right side of the victim’s car before cutting in front and stopping ahead of it. “The suspect then got out of his vehicle and punched the victim’s right-side mirror with his bare hand. Unsatisfied, he returned to his car to retrieve a wheel lock and struck the mirror and right side of the victim’s car three times, breaking the mirror,” Resa said. The victim got out to secure the broken mirror and recorded the suspect’s face and license plate before the suspect fled the scene. During the arrest, police seized several pieces of evidence, including a green short-sleeved shirt, a black jacket, blue trousers, a smartphone, and video footage from the incident. The suspect, JF, along with the evidence, has been taken to Polda Metro Jaya for further questioning. He faces charges under Article 521 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning destruction crimes.
