Online Sellers Eligible for 50% Commission Discount on Ecommerce, Here Are the Conditions

One of the rules under the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) Regulation on Protection to Improve Competitiveness concerns incentives from ecommerce platforms to small and micro sellers. Sellers stand to receive a 50% discount on service fees if they meet certain criteria. One criterion is inclusion in the SAPA UMKM system. The regulation also prioritises local products and will be integrated with the marketplace system.

‘That is another one, and it prioritises local products,’ said Maman Abdurrahman, Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM), at the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation on Thursday (21 May 2026).

The regulation provides a 50% discount on service charges. The discount applies only to micro and small enterprises. ‘It is a form of protection for micro and small businesses because they need to be protected,’ Maman said.

Another point addresses that marketplaces should not raise service charges arbitrarily. For this point, the seller and marketplace must sign a contract, and there should be no price increase for a year. Fee increases or revisions are still allowed, but must be announced three months in advance, giving sellers time to prepare.

With that, the rules are designed to be fair. ‘In the regulation we are required to give three months’ notice. Fair, right? I think if people cannot interpret this, it means they lack humanity,’ he said.

The new regulation is awaiting the legislative process. Maman did not say when it would be officially launched, only that he hopes it can be done as soon as possible. ‘Pray for it to happen quickly,’ he said.
