Jatinangor, VIVA – Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) has provided clarification regarding its QR Code-based gate policy, which came under scrutiny following a protest by online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers at the Jatinangor Campus on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

The Head of Unpad’s Public Communication Office, Dandi Supriadi, explained that the system has been implemented through the Saunpad app to improve security, order, and vehicle access control on campus.

“The initial aim of this system is to enhance security. Through this system, the academic community scans the QR Code to enter and exit the campus as part of access management,” he stated.

He added that visitors without app access can still enter via Gate C by reporting to security personnel, and this policy applies to various parties, including ojol drivers, couriers, guests, and alumni.

However, the access arrangement has drawn objections from ojol drivers, who consider it to prolong the distance to pickup or delivery points within the campus.

In response, Unpad is opening additional access via Gate D or the Tugu Makalangan Gate temporarily for the next five days, pending evaluation and formulation of a solution.

“Unpad will also invite representatives of online motorcycle taxi drivers for a hearing to find the best solution,” Dandi said.

On the other hand, traffic engineering efforts in the Jatinangor area are also being carried out by the Transportation Department, including the closure of the roundabout at the old Pangdam site, which has become a point of contention for ojol riders.

The Transportation Department assesses that the policy was taken because the spot is frequently a site of traffic violations due to riders cutting through traffic, which has the potential to cause accidents.

As a follow-up to the on-ground dynamics, access at that location has been reopened temporarily for joint evaluation with relevant parties.

Unpad hopes that within the next five days, a policy can be obtained that still maintains security and order, while accommodating the mobility needs of ojol drivers. (Ant)
