Online Motorcycle Taxi Commission Scheme of 8% Officially Takes Effect from 1 July 2026
A wave of good news has swept over online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver partners across the country. As of 1 July 2026, the service commission scheme for ride-hailing platforms has been officially reduced to 8%. This new policy allows driver partners to pocket 92% of the total fare paid by passengers. The implementation of this more worker-friendly revenue-sharing mechanism is a concrete follow-up to a directive from President Prabowo Subianto. The directive was previously conveyed during the International Labour Day (May Day) commemoration on 1 May 2026 and was reinforced by commitments from the management of GoTo and Grab Indonesia during a meeting at the Parliament Complex in Senayan at the end of June. A number of driver partners have already reported feeling the positive impact of this policy. Agus, a Gojek driver partner, revealed that the income breakdown in his application now shows a much smaller deduction than before. “With the 8% commission now in effect, we drivers are certainly happy. We hope orders remain busy and income continues to improve,” Agus said in a written statement received on Friday (3/7). Echoing Agus, Andi, another driver partner, mentioned that the increase in income has been noticeable since the beginning of July. Interestingly, he confirmed that this policy does not burden consumers. “I asked several customers whether the fare they paid had changed. They said there was no change. So the fare for customers remains the same, while the driver’s income feels slightly better,” Andi explained. As one of the major platform operators, Gojek has implemented this scheme for both GoRide Reguler and GoRide Hemat services. The company has ensured that for the GoRide Reguler service, the total fare paid by customers has not increased. Meanwhile, for the GoRide Hemat service, promotional schemes and discounts are maintained according to market needs. The government hopes that with the enforcement of this 8% scheme, the balance of the online transport ecosystem can be preserved. This policy is expected to improve the welfare of millions of driver partners in Indonesia without disrupting the business stability of application companies or the purchasing power of service users.
