Online Motorbike Taxi Driver Loses Vehicle Ahead of Eid, Saadah Relies on Aid from Children and Relatives
BOGOR, KOMPAS.com - As Eid approaches, the public eagerly anticipates new clothes, family gatherings, and festive meals. However, Saadah (53), an online motorbike taxi driver, has faced a different fate. The woman lost her motorcycle, which was her lifeline for earning a living, on the morning of Monday (15/3/2026). “That’s just how it is. At most, my children or relatives will help,” said Saadah when met at her home on Wednesday (18/3/2026). Saadah was once married but is now divorced. Her children are already married. She has been supporting herself for the past 10-15 years. She needs to pay Rp400,000 per month for renting her small house. To make ends meet, she started working as a motorbike taxi driver from around 6am to 8pm WIB. Often, Saadah does night shifts from 4pm to 3am. Her income is inconsistent, ranging from Rp150,000 to Rp250,000 per day. Yet, the position of Saadah’s motorcycle was not in an easily accessible place. “Even though there are more expensive ones and easier-to-reach ones, my mother’s motorbike was stolen. It’s squeezed in a tight spot, hard to get to. That’s what I can’t fathom,” said Adi. He admitted feeling heartbroken seeing his mother work so hard.
