Online Gambling Turnover Reaches Rp 286 Trillion in 2025, Komdigi Blocks 3.4 Million Sites
The Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, revealed that since the era of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, her department has blocked 3.4 million online gambling sites. Throughout 2025, the turnover of online gambling funds reached Rp 286 trillion, although this figure represents a decrease compared to 2024, which reached Rp 400 trillion.
“From 20 October 2024 to 16 May 2026, access to 3,452,000 gambling sites has been severed. Looking at PPATK data, the turnover for online gambling in 2025 is Rp 286 trillion, a decrease of approximately 30 per cent from the previous year which touched Rp 400 trillion,” Meutya stated at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (18/5/2026).
She added that Komdigi is not only performing access disruptions but is also requesting the blocking of over 25,000 bank accounts from the OJK for 2025. She issued a warning to e-wallet providers, noting that platforms such as Dana, Doku, GoPay, Indosat, Isaku, LinkAja, OVO, QRIS, Sakuku, ShopeePay, Telkomsel, TMB, and XL Axiata must be vigilant as their services are being used as intermediaries for online crimes.
On 13 May 2025, Meutya Hafid disclosed that nearly 200,000 children in Indonesia have been exposed to online gambling, including approximately 80,000 children under the age of 10, which serves as a serious alarm for the future of the younger generation. “Online gambling is a scam with a system that ensures players almost always lose in the long run,” Meutya said during the ‘Indonesia GOID Menyapa Gass Pol Tolak Judol’ event in Medan on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
Consequently, Meutya emphasised that all parties must act as an educational vanguard, protecting families and children from these widespread illegal practices. She noted that eradicating online gambling requires more than just blocking access and legal action; it also necessitates strengthening digital literacy and public awareness. “We are not just closing access or performing takedowns. The most important thing is to reach the wider community with these facts, so that awareness grows from within families and communities,” she concluded.
