Online Gambling Transactions Fall, DPR Warns Against Relaxing Law Enforcement

Jakarta – Deputy Speaker of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), Sukamta, has responded positively to the decline in the circulation of online gambling funds in 2025. However, he cautioned that the eradication of online gambling must not stop.

“The downward trend in online gambling fund circulation is certainly a positive step shown by the government, even though the problem of online gambling is not yet resolved, so improvements must continue,” Sukamta said in a statement on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.

Despite a decrease of around 20 per cent, Sukamta believes the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs must continue making improvements to tackle online gambling.

“The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs needs to work more systematically and with greater discipline so that, slowly but surely, online gambling can be eroded in Indonesia,” he stated.

He said the government must evaluate the success indicators of digital transformation, particularly regarding law enforcement against online gambling practices.

“The tracing of online gambling sites by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs will be more optimal if accompanied by law enforcement against the perpetrators, especially the major players,” he said.

“Prevention of online gambling must be coupled with the enforcement of regulations and the imposition of strict sanctions against digital criminals who are highly detrimental to society and the state,” he explained.

Previously, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) reported that the circulation of online gambling funds in 2025 reached Rp286.84 trillion. This figure represents a 20 per cent decrease compared to the previous year.

In addition, the value of deposits also fell from Rp51.3 trillion in 2024 to Rp36.01 trillion in 2025.

Online gambling fund circulation from 2017 to 2024 had experienced an increase from Rp2.01 trillion to Rp359.81 trillion.
