JAKARTA (JP): The newly merged Ministry of Industry and Trade
has connected its electronic data and information system to the
Internet in a bid to boost services to businesses.
The data and information system can now be accessed through
Internet, Protocol X.25 and direct modem.
"Minister of Industry and Trade Tunky Ariwibowo himself is
using the Internet's e-mail system to communicate with his staff
members as well as directors of state-owned industrial and
trading companies," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry's data center currently provides a database for
industrial statistics, exports and imports, an industrial
directory, international trade, investment in industrial sectors
and government regulations.
The statement said that the establishment of online electronic
data services will enable straight and comprehensive linkages
between data centers and data sources either in the home country
or abroad.
Because e-mail communication is faster, more direct and more
effective than telephone or facsimile, the ministry expects the
system to enhance the ministry's productivity and efficiency
while promoting more effective communication with businesses.
According to a data center official, those who want access
must have an Intel 486/66 personal computer with 8 megabytes (MB)
of memory, 320 MB hard drive, a 3.5" disk drive, a standard
keyboard and mouse, an SVGA monitor and controller, at least a
14.4 bps/V42 modem, a printer and MS-Windows software -- Windows
95 is recommended.
The direct modem can be connected via the Jakarta phone
numbers 522.3040, 526.1087, 526.1090, 526.5025-28, while
Internet access must go through pusdata.dprin.go.id or
202.46.245.35 with Protocol telnet, ftp or http (WWW).
WGCLIENT software is recommended for e-mail connection. (kod)
