Online Courier Allegedly Embezzles Laptop, Police Launch Manhunt
A small business owner in Central Jakarta, Sri Mulyatin (31), has allegedly fallen victim to embezzlement by an online motorcycle taxi courier. A laptop she purchased through a marketplace never arrived, even though the delivery status had been marked as complete.
The incident began when Sri bought a laptop from a shop in the Mangga Dua area on Tuesday (14/7). She opted for an instant delivery service so the item would arrive quickly at her home in Tanah Tinggi, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta.
“It wasn’t our first time shopping online; we’ve done it many times, even with larger amounts, and it was always trustworthy. So we didn’t think twice about ordering it,” Sri said on Saturday (18/7/2026).
Suspicions arose when Sri’s husband returned home from work and asked about the package. After checking the application, they discovered the delivery status had been marked as completed by the courier at 12:17 WIB.
“It happened that my husband was the one who ordered it. He was at the office working, so we only found out when he got home. He asked, ‘Has the package arrived yet?’ I said, ‘No’,” Sri recounted. “Then he checked the delivery status and said, ‘Look, it was completed at 12:17’.”
According to data from the shop in Mangga Dua, the courier who picked up Sri’s package was identified as Sarwani. The shop had documented the courier’s photograph and his driving licence during the collection process.
“We have a photo of the courier and his ID, which we got from the shop. Because when someone picks up a package, they usually take a photo first, so the data is there,” she explained.
Sri then tried to contact the driver’s number, but received no response. “We contacted the driver’s number; initially it was active. When we sent a message and then called, there was no answer. Shortly after, we were blocked,” she revealed.
Sri noted that she had previously ordered electronic goods through the marketplace many times without issue. “Handphones, TVs, even refrigerators — electronic items like that. I’ve even bought a laptop online before, so I was trusting. This is the first time a package hasn’t arrived,” Sri said. “Thankfully, it’s never happened before, whether the package was high or low value.”
Sri stated she suffered a material loss of Rp 8.5 million. “In the video, it says Rp 15 million, which is the normal price. But we got a discount, so the loss is around Rp 8.5 million,” she added.
Sri subsequently reported the incident to the Central Jakarta Metro Police. When contacted separately, Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKBP Roby Heri Saputra confirmed the report had been received.
“We are monitoring it. The report has been filed and is under investigation by our team,” Roby said when contacted.
Roby also confirmed that investigators have successfully obtained the identity of the online courier who made off with the victim’s laptop. Police are currently pursuing the suspected perpetrator.
“The identity is already known. We are in pursuit,” Roby concluded.
