Honorary member of Gerakan Rakyat Anies Baswedan attended the one-year celebration of the mass organisation chaired by Sahrin Hamid. Anies stated that this civil society organisation is more than just a name-plate in Jakarta.

Anies conveyed these remarks during the thanksgiving and joint breaking of fast event at Gerakan Rakyat headquarters on Jalan Ampera, South Jakarta, on Friday (26 February 2026). Anies extended congratulations on Gerakan Rakyat’s one-year journey.

“Praise be, one year of our journey. A year conducted with various activities,” Anies said in his remarks.

He stated that Gerakan Rakyat is not merely a name-plate in Jakarta. The former Jakarta Governor noted that the organisation possesses networks across Indonesian regions.

“And most importantly, most importantly, this civil society organisation is not one that is merely a name-plate in Jakarta. But it has networks across all regions of Indonesia. That is the most important achievement over the past year,” Anies said.

“And therefore, the aspirations of the struggle, because of the gathering in Gerakan Rakyat, if we remember the milestones of this organisation’s journey beginning in 2023, in November 2023. This means this is a network striving for change and justice,” he added.

Anies hopes that the mass organisation, which has been conducting activities since November 2023, can reach all regions across Indonesia. Anies stated that the struggle to achieve change is inevitable.

“Therefore, I wish to convey congratulations and the highest appreciation to all agents of change who have struggled together over the past year. Appreciation to the leadership of Gerakan Rakyat’s central board, Sahrin Hamid and all his staff, as well as all provincial boards and district boards,” he said.

Anies reminded that the one-year journey is merely the beginning. He stated there is still a long path ahead that Gerakan Rakyat must traverse.

“Congratulations, a good beginning, but not the end. This is only the beginning. The journey is still long. The path still climbs. God willing, not a steep one, God willing, it will be easy to traverse. Congratulations to Gerakan Rakyat,” he concluded.
