One Year of Danantara: Prabowo Grateful Indonesia Has Sixth-Largest Sovereign Wealth Fund in the World

JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto expressed gratitude that Indonesia now possesses an investment management body comparable to sovereign wealth funds globally, describing Danantara as among the world’s sixth-largest sovereign wealth funds.

Prabowo made these remarks while delivering remarks at Danantara Indonesia’s first anniversary celebration in central Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

“We are grateful that we now have an institution that can be compared with sovereign wealth funds in the world. We are grateful that Indonesia now has a sovereign wealth fund that is possibly the sixth or seventh largest in the world,” Prabowo said on Wednesday evening.

He highlighted that the management of the fund’s assets is proceeding with correct political will and proper governance. “With good management, especially with the right will and political determination, with the right spirit, results are already visible,” he stated.

Prabowo reported that Danantara’s Return on Assets (RoA) has increased 300 per cent over the past year. However, he acknowledged that the current RoA of just 5 per cent falls significantly short of targets. A well-performing company typically achieves an RoA of 10 per cent, with excellent performers reaching 12-15 per cent.

“When it’s good, it’s 12 per cent; when it’s excellent, 15 per cent. We should have a good target of 10 per cent. But we understand that this may not be achievable in the initial years,” Prabowo said.

He also acknowledged Danantara’s weighty responsibility. The body has been entrusted with managing the nation’s wealth and consolidating all state-owned assets. This significant role aligns with the meaning of its name: “Daya” signifies strength or energy, whilst “Anagata” means the future.

“Danantara must protect and manage the strength and energy of our nation for the future. This is how important Danantara is. This is Danantara’s first anniversary. Of course, we are always grateful,” Prabowo concluded.
