One week: 44 LPDP scholarship recipients sanctioned and Indonesia-US tariff reduced to 15 percent
Jakarta — During the week of 22 February-28 February 2026, various economic developments were reported, ranging from sanctions against 44 LPDP scholarship recipients to changes in Indonesia-US trade tariffs.
LPDP: 44 scholarship recipients sanctioned, 8 required to repay funds
The Director-General of the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP), Sudarto, reported that 44 scholarship recipients (awardees) have been sanctioned for failing to meet their service obligations as stipulated in the regulations. Of these, 8 individuals have been ordered to repay the scholarship funds they received, whilst a further 36 remain under investigation.
State Budget deficit of Rp54.6 trillion in January 2026

Coordinating minister announces Indonesia-US trade tariff reduced to 15 percent
Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the trade tariff between Indonesia and the United States has been reduced from 19 percent to 15 percent. This follows a decision by the US Supreme Court invalidating President Donald Trump’s tariff policies and plans to implement a global 15 percent tariff rate.
