One-Way System in Garut Effectively Manages Return Traffic, with 54,020 Vehicles Passing to Bandung-Jakarta
Garut Police have enforced a one-way traffic engineering system on the main return flow routes for Lebaran after vehicle volumes reached 54,020 units since Tuesday night (24/3/2026). This policy has proven effective in reducing vehicle density at several congestion-prone points. The traffic engineering is applied along the Limbangan, Malangbong, Kadungora, Tarogong, and Leles routes, which serve as primary paths to Bandung and Jakarta. The one-way system is implemented situationally, adjusting to on-site traffic conditions. Garut Police Traffic Unit Head, Ajun Commissioner Luky Martono, explained that officers have conducted several closures and diversions throughout the day, particularly at congestion hotspots from morning to night. “This traffic engineering focuses on smoothing vehicles from Bandung to Tasikmalaya and vice versa, which have seen a significant increase during the homecoming period. The one-way implementation is done gradually with varying durations of 10 to 50 minutes depending on traffic density at each point,” he stated on Wednesday morning (25/3/2026). Based on data from the Garut Police Traffic Unit, the volume of vehicles from Bandung to Garut was recorded at 38,147 units, comprising 21,352 motorcycles, 16,098 small and medium cars, and 697 large vehicles such as trucks and buses. Meanwhile, the return flow from Garut to Bandung reached 54,020 vehicles, consisting of 28,680 motorcycles, 24,643 small and medium cars, and 697 large vehicles. “The return flow on the Limbangan and Malangbong routes uses the one-way system starting from Masjid Kaum Lewo, Pasar Domba, RM Pananjung, to Simpang Tiga Malangbong. Meanwhile, on the Kadungora, Tarogong, and Leles routes, it is implemented in the Kadungora area, Tutugan Leles, and Simpang Empat Kubang,” he said. According to Luky, the surge in vehicle volume indicates high public mobility during the Lebaran return flow, especially on West Java’s southern arterial route passing through Garut Regency. Despite the increased traffic flow, the overall traffic conditions remain monitored as smooth and controlled thanks to the dynamic implementation of traffic engineering. “We urge all road users to continue obeying traffic rules, following on-site officer directions, and maintaining physical condition during the journey to avoid unwanted incidents. The one-way engineering is expected to ensure the homecoming flow proceeds safely, smoothly, and comfortably for all,” he added.
