One UNIFIL Soldier Killed, Commission I: Attacks on Peacekeeping Forces Cannot Be Justified
One Indonesian UNIFIL member was killed after Israel bombed the UNIFIL headquarters in Lebanon. According to reports from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other TNI personnel were injured in the incident.
Sukamta, Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR RI, on Monday (30/3) in Jakarta, expressed condolences. He called for decisive steps from the government regarding the attack on peacekeeping forces.
“We extend our deepest condolences over the passing of the TNI soldier in carrying out the noble duty as part of the world’s peacekeeping mission. May the deceased be granted the best place by the Almighty God, and may the bereaved family be given strength and resilience.”
This Deputy Chairman of the PKS Faction added that the TNI’s dedication in the UN peacekeeping mission is a tangible manifestation of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining global order and stability.
According to him, this incident serves as a reminder that peacekeeping duties are not without risks. However, he continued, any form of attack on peacekeeping forces cannot be justified and constitutes a serious violation of the principles of international law.
“We believe the state will take appropriate and measured steps, encouraging a transparent investigation process, and ensuring that this incident is followed up through applicable international mechanisms. Indonesia is a nation that upholds peace, while also safeguarding its honour and dignity. In situations like this, firmness must go hand in hand with wisdom,” said this DPR member from Yogyakarta.
Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR RI, Dave Laksono, urged the government to conduct an evaluation, including the option of withdrawing troops, after an Indonesian TNI soldier serving with UNIFIL was killed in Lebanon.
One member of the UN peacekeeping mission UNIFIL was killed after a projectile exploded at one of their posts near the village of Adchit Al-Qusayr, southern Lebanon, on Sunday (29/3).
The TNI personnel, who was a member of UNIFIL, was killed in an indirect artillery attack that hit the Indonesian contingent’s position near Adchit Al Qusayr, southern Lebanon.
