One TNI Soldier Killed, Six Injured in Madiun Ammunition Depot Explosion

A soldier was killed in an explosion at the Central Munitions Depot (Gupusmu) II of the Army Equipment Centre (Puspalad) in Saradan, Madiun Regency, East Java. The Indonesian Army has expressed its condolences over the workplace accident.

Army spokesperson Brigadier General Donny Pramono stated that, based on initial reports, the incident occurred while personnel were conducting inspection and maintenance activities on munitions in one of the storage warehouses. In the incident, one soldier died, four sustained serious injuries, and two others suffered minor injuries.

“The Indonesian Army extends its deepest condolences over the workplace accident that occurred at Gupusmu II Puspalad. We convey our sympathies to the family of the soldier who died in the line of duty and pray for all victims currently undergoing treatment, that they may be granted a swift recovery and be restored to full health,” Donny said in a statement received on Thursday (16/6/2026).

Donny said the unit immediately evacuated all victims to hospital for rapid medical treatment. He added that the unit had reported the incident procedurally and through the chain of command.

The explosion occurred at the TNI ammunition depot on the Madiun-Surabaya highway in Saradan District, Madiun Regency, East Java. Reports indicated that several TNI members were injured in the incident. Observations at the emergency department of Caruban Madiun Regional Hospital showed a number of TNI members receiving treatment, with many other soldiers, including intelligence personnel from the Madiun Military District Command, seen moving around the facility.
