The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has reported an explosion at the Army Equipment Centre’s (Puspalad) Ammunition Depot II (Gupusmu II) in Saradan District, Madiun, East Java, on Thursday (16/7/2026). One soldier was killed in the incident, four others sustained serious injuries, and two more suffered minor injuries.

Army Information Chief Brigadier General Donny Pramono stated that the incident is currently being handled and investigated. “The Indonesian Army extends its deepest condolences for the work accident that occurred at Gupusmu II Puspalad. We offer our sympathies to the family of the fallen soldier and pray that all victims currently undergoing treatment recover swiftly and return to full health,” Brigadier General Donny said in an official statement on Thursday evening.

The explosion occurred on Thursday morning. According to reports received, the incident began during an inspection and maintenance activity of munitions material in one of the storage warehouses.
