One Resident Dies of Heart Attack After M6.2 Earthquake Shakes Parimo, Central Sulawesi
One person died after a magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook Parigi Moutong Regency (Parimo), Central Sulawesi. The victim, identified as Wiwi Putri (29), reportedly died of a heart attack.
The earthquake occurred in Tomini Bay, Parimo, at around 00:25 WITA. The victim was taken to hospital but died en route.
“Yes, it is true (the woman died of) a heart attack. She was taken to the Mepanga Community Health Centre that same night but died on the way,” said Acting Head of the Parimo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Moh Rivai, as reported by detikSulsel on Sunday (16/8/2026).
Rivai said the earthquake also caused damage to the Parimo Public Works and Spatial Planning Office. No casualties resulted from the damage to that building.
“The office of the Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Agency of Parigi Moutong Regency suffered damage to its ceiling and roof truss walls,” Rivai said.
As previously reported, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurred in Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi. The tremors were felt as far as Palu and Gorontalo. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the earthquake did not have tsunami potential.
