Jakarta – PT PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo has delivered positive news regarding the repair of infrastructure that caused power outages in several cities recently. One of the two coal-fired power plants (PLTU) that experienced technical disruptions has been successfully restored.

Darmawan explained that since Sunday (21 June) at 18:00 Western Indonesia Time, the recovered plant has re-synchronised with the Java Island electricity system and begun supplying power to enhance the reliability of the Java grid.

“One of the power plants has been successfully restored. Therefore, the rolling blackouts that occurred last week have been successfully minimised,” Darmawan said in a confirmed voice recording, quoted on Monday, 22 June 2026.

He further assured that he will continue to monitor efforts to repair the Java electricity system. “We are striving for the best so that the ongoing repairs can be maintained and continuously improved,” Darmawan stated.

On Friday (19 June), Darmawan revealed that two PLTUs in Java experienced technical disruptions that caused rolling blackouts on the island. Darmawan said the technical disruption experienced by the Independent Power Producer (IPP) plant caused both plants to be disconnected from the Java electricity system.

Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and TJSL at PLN, Gregorius Adi Trianto, said that to maintain the reliability of electricity supply to customers, PLN is implementing limited and measured load management in several areas. This measure has resulted in rolling blackouts occurring in a number of regions.

Based on monitoring by ANTARA, several areas in East Java, particularly Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and Gresik, have frequently experienced power outages since last week at varying times. Some of these areas suffered sudden blackouts lasting two to five hours a day. Last week, several main roads in Surabaya also experienced power cuts lasting for hours into the night, posing considerable danger to motorists.
