Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - One pilgrim from the Banjarmasin embarkation point, South Kalimantan, has reportedly passed away in the Holy Land of Saudi Arabia. The pilgrim was from Kloter 06, originating from Seruyan Regency, Central Kalimantan, during the 1447 H/2026 M Hajj season.

The Head of the Hajj Pilgrimage Organising Committee (PPIH) of the Banjarmasin embarkation point, Eddy Khairani, in Banjarbaru, on Friday, confirmed the sad news, stating that the deceased was Muhammad Darmawan (66 years old). He passed away while being treated at Al Noor Hospital in Mecca on May 14th, 2026, at approximately 18:48 Saudi Arabian Time (WAS).

“On behalf of myself and the entire PPIH family, as well as the Ministry of Religious Affairs, we express our deepest condolences for the passing of Mr. Muhammad Darmawan. May he have a good ending, may all his sins and mistakes be forgiven, and may he receive the best place by the side of Allah SWT,” said Eddy.

He conveyed prayers and support to the bereaved family, hoping they will be given strength and sincerity in accepting this tragedy.

He stated that he and the kloter officials continue to provide assistance and coordinate with relevant parties for the process of handling and carrying out the burial of the deceased in the Holy Land according to applicable regulations.

“The deceased departed to perform the Hajj pilgrimage with his wife, Mariyamah Anang Gani, and was buried in the Al Shoraya 64 Cemetery, Mecca,” he said.

Eddy also reminded all prospective pilgrims, especially those from the Banjarmasin embarkation point, to always maintain their health and comply with the instructions of health officials and religious guides while in Saudi Arabia.

“The weather conditions in the Holy Land are quite extreme, so pilgrims are advised to maintain a proper rest pattern, drink plenty of water, and not overexert themselves. The safety and health of the pilgrims are the main priorities,” he said.

The Banjarmasin embarkation point, South Kalimantan, has flown 15 kloters to the Holy Land, totaling 5,389 people.

In the 2026 Hajj season, the Banjarmasin embarkation point is sending 19 kloters, namely 14 kloters from South Kalimantan and five kloters from Central Kalimantan.

The total number of prospective pilgrims from the Banjarmasin embarkation point is 6,822, namely 5,197 from South Kalimantan and 1,561 from Central Kalimantan.
