One North Sumatran Hajj Pilgrim Dies After Tawaf Ifadah at the Grand Mosque

Medan - The Hajj Organising Committee (PPIH) for Debarkation Medan has confirmed that a Hajj pilgrim from North Sumatra died after performing the tawaf ifadah at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. A pilgrim from flight group 9, Mrs Nurliana Mara Iman, the wife of TK Panusunan, has passed away after the tawaf ifadah,” said Medan PPIH Chairman Zulkifli Sitorus at the Medan Hajj Dormitory on Friday. He explained that Nurliana suffered a cardiac arrest whilst walking back to her hotel on Monday (1 June) at 1.40 p.m. Saudi Arabia Time. The deceased, who hailed from North Padang Lawas Regency, was rushed to the Jiwar Care Health Hospital in Mecca, where a medical team performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. “The hospital doctor requested consent to be signed by Nurliana’s husband for a cardiac catheterization procedure on Tuesday (2 June),” he said. “Mrs Nurliana took her last breath with a diagnosis of cardiogenic shock at Jiwar Care Health Hospital on Thursday (4 June) at 2.15 p.m. Saudi Arabia Time,” he added. Zulkifli, who also serves as Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for North Sumatra Province, stated that four Hajj pilgrims from North Sumatra have now died in the Holy Land. The records show Kasiani (69) from Medan City in Flight Group 08 KNO died due to respiratory problems on Wednesday (13 May), and Isron bin Baitul Nasution from Mandailing Natal Regency in Flight Group 06 KNO died due to illness on Wednesday (27 May). PPIH Debarkation Medan data indicates that 5,968 Hajj pilgrims from North Sumatra are undergoing the repatriation phase to their homeland via Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang from 2 to 21 June 2026. “Nadhirah binti Sirajuddin (66) from Langkat Regency in Flight Group 02 KNO died due to heart disease on Friday (29 May), and Nurliana (59) from Flight Group 09 KNO died due to cardiac arrest on Thursday (4 June),” Zulkifli concluded.
