One Motorcycle Theft Suspect Dies After Mob Justice in Karawang
Karawang — Two motorcycle theft suspects became the target of mob violence after their crimes were exposed in Pedes District, Karawang Regency, West Java, resulting in the death of one perpetrator.
Ipda Cep Wildan, head of public relations at Karawang Police, stated that the incident occurred in Dusun Sukarela, Kertamulya Village, Pedes District, Karawang on Monday at approximately 09.00 Western Indonesia Time. Video footage of the mob violence circulated widely on social media.
Wildan confirmed that the video was linked to motorcycle theft perpetrators in the Pedes District area. Upon receiving information from residents, officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit and Emergency Response Team of Pedes Police Station immediately proceeded to the scene to secure the situation and evacuate two individuals suspected of being the motorcycle thieves, who had previously been apprehended and subjected to mob justice by residents.
Officers evacuated both suspects to Karawang Regional Hospital for medical treatment. Based on medical examination results, one suspect identified as “A” was pronounced dead, whilst the other suspect identified as “K” alias “E” remains under treatment.
From the incident scene, officers secured several pieces of evidence including one black Honda Beat motorcycle allegedly used as the getaway vehicle, one motorcycle belonging to the victim, one T-shaped wrench, and one mobile phone.
Police conducted a crime scene investigation, collected witness statements, and coordinated with the Forensic Unit of Karawang Police for further investigation.
Police authorities appealed to the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Residents are urged to immediately report any criminal activity to police so that matters can be handled in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
